A story of misadventures in America's Golden State.
Book Design
After living in western California for almost 2 years travel writer, Chris Atkin, wanted to share his tales of adventure and exploration of the US.
Sharing some of his photography from throughout the trip, he was looking for a bold and unique cover for his book, and a map to depict the key locations throughout his travels to self publish.
Based on the California landscape, we started to draw, paint and ProCreate concepts - with Chris as the central ‘hero’ to the story. We wanted the cover to feel like a celebration and hint at the types of adventures that the book would contain.
With experience creating covers for self publishing authors, we knew that a bold and eye catching layout was key - especially as most people's first impression of your book will be a tiny thumbnail online. We therefore chose to use a paired back colour palette with 3 main colours in blocks, and a large title that could be easily read.
The end result is a cover that works not only online, but catches your eye on a coffee table or bookshelf and calls out to be read.
