Creating a joyful community from solitude with Teem Up
App Design | UX & UI Design | Digital Design
The Teemup app was dreamed up during the darkest days of the pandemic. With all running events cancelled, Ambrose Choy of Teemup knew that many would be at a loss. For many, races marked the rhythm of the year and their loss was tangible.
As an enthusiastic runner himself, Ambrose, wanted to create an app where users could sign up for virtual races, an app that embodied the spirit of a live race.
Ambrose wanted to work with designers who shared his passion for running and understood the importance of the running community. Kim’s trail running background made us the perfect creative partners for the project.
We started by carefully picking what made an event what it was–community, excitement, sharing, supporting others–and how we could bring dusting of that into the app.
The app was to be an enthusiastic companion on a race. It had to be simple to use with intuitive UX and UI and minimal distractions. (No fiddling around and missing the start of the race or tripping up.)
We wire framed and sketched out all the screens of the app, considering everything it needed to do. We then created basic digital wireframes, prototyping each user journey to make sure they were clear and simple. Finally, we designed the main screens in high fidelity in Figma.
As the app was in its infancy, we created a UI toolkit so that Ambrose and the rest of the guys at TeemUp could adapt as the app developed.
We’re glad that in-person races are back but there’s nothing quite like an app cheering you as you hit your favourite trails
